February 28th is celebrated as the National Science day all over India. It was on this day in 1928 that a major discovery in science was made in our country using simple equipments. That discovery is now called the ‘Raman Effect’ after the discoverer C. V. Raman. It fetched him the Nobel Prize and placed India firmly in the list of scientifically progressing countries. Completing much of his studies with scholarships, he started contributing to science even at the young age of 18 by publishing his inventions and discoveries in international magazines like NATURE. It was he who started the first Indian Scientific Research Institute to promote scientific investigation among the Indians.
